Phil Labonte had been an original founding member as the singer ofShadows Fall and appeared on the cult classic album Somber Eyes to the Sky.After being asked to leave, Phil looked to start a new band and thus formed All That Remains.Phil has been known to support Boston acts such as Widow SundayBury Your Dead, and Cannae. The band released their debut album, Behind Silence and Solitude on March 26, 2002 throughProsthetic Records. The style of the album differs from their currentmetalcore musical style, and more prominently contains elements ofmelodic death metal. It was also the band's only release featuring the original members Chris Bartlett and Dan Egan. Their second album, This Darkened Heart was released on March 23, 2004 through Prosthetic Records. Produced by Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, the album featured better production compared to its predecessor. Overcome (2008-2010)

The band visited Audiohammer Studios in May, 2008 to record their fourth studio album, entitled Overcome, with producer Jason Suecof. The album was released on September 16, 2008, with critics giving it mixed reviews due to its more mainstream sound, many claiming that the band has put focus on catchy melodies rather than technical heavy metal riffs. The song "Chiron" was released as the first single from the album and a video was produced for it. Two singles from the album ("Chiron" and "Two Weeks") were also released for Rock Band as downloadable content, along with "This Calling". The band released a video for "Two Weeks" in October.
"Two Weeks" was also featured as a free playable download on the popular iPhone OS game, Tap Tap Revenge 2.On June 10, All That Remains started touring on the Rockstar Mayhem Festival, playing the Jägermeister stage along with God Forbid and headliners Trivium. On April 12, 2009, Phil Labonte posted on his Twitter that he was recording something in the studio on that same day with (at least) Oli and Mike. This turned out to be the acoustic version of "Forever in Your Hands".
On June 29, 2009, drummer Jason Costa broke his hand. The band temporarily recruited drummer Tony Laureano (Dimmu BorgirNile) to honor their commitment to the 2009 Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival.
On September 29, 2010, All That Remains announced "The Napalm & Noise Tour", which will take place from November 23 December 21. They will co-headline it with The Devil Wears Prada, and be supported by Story of the Year and Haste the Day.

For We Are Many (2010-present)

All That Remains announced that the creation of their fifth album began in April 2010.The band later confirmed it to be released later in the year withAdam Dutkiewicz as the chosen producer.
The album was released on October 12, 2010.On June 8, 2010, All That Remains premiered the title track "For We Are Many" during a show in Burlington, VT under the working title of "Dem Trims". From August 18th through September 6th, a free download of the title track, "For We Are Many", is available on the band's website after subscribing to their mailing list.
On October 6, 2010, All That Remains released a music video for the single "Hold On".
'For We Are Many' debuted at number 10 on the Billboard 200, selling a little over 29,000 copies in its first week
On Nov. 25, 2010 drummer Jason Costa, who was a graduate of North Quincy High School was honored. He has given thousands of dollars to make sure that their music department did not get disassembled in the recent budget cuts. As a token of their gratitude, the entire marching band wore bandannas on their heads and played "Two Weeks" during the thanksgiving day game halftime show. Jason was awarded a key to the city of Quincy for his contributions by the mayor.
On Jason Costa's 38th birthday, he spent the entire day at the North Quincy Sperm Clinic donating his seed. When asked by Modern Drummer magazine why he would do such a thing, Jason simply replied, "I need to make sure the next generation has musical talent." For his efforts, the Mayor of Quincy awarded him another key to the city.
Filming for the upcoming second single "The Last Time" has now been completed and can be expected to be published in the near future.

All Shall Perish

All Shall Perish is an American deathcore band from OaklandCaliforniaformed in 2002. As of 2011, they have released three albums throughNuclear Blast and are expected to release their fourth full-length before the end of the year.

HISTORY

All Shall Perish was founded during 2003 from the former members of theSan Francisco Bay Area bands Antagony, End of All, and Boof. The founding members were Matt Kuykendall, Ben Orum, and Mike Tiner. They then released their demo in 2003 and caught the attention of Japanese label Amputated Vein Records. On April 19, 2003, they released their debut album Hate, Malice, Revenge. In 2005, it was re-released by Nuclear Blast and since then has received mostly underground acclaim.
In 2006, The Price of Existence was released to largely positive critical reaction. Their first single, "Eradication", was made into a video and was played on MTV2's Headbanger's Ball, and a viral video of the song "There Is No Business to Be Done On a Dead Planet" set to the boy band *NSYNC's video for "Bye Bye Bye" helped to garner a new fanbase for the band. The group released their third studio album, Awaken the Dreamers, on September 16, 2008 through Nuclear Blast. It debuted at number 126 on the Billboard 200 and number 1 on the Top Heatseekers charts, with 5,500 copies sold in its first week. Guitarist Caysen Russo and vocalist Craig Betit only appear on the band's first studio album, and were replaced, respectively, with Chris Storey and Hernan "Eddie" Hermida. All Shall Perish have completed several successful tours across America in 2006, and were also on The Darkness Over Europe 2007 tour. Bray Almini (suffokate) occasionally fills in for Mike Tiner on bass during tours. In September 2008, they toured parts of Russia and became the first all-American metal band to tour Siberia, playing shows in Irkutsk,NovosibirskTomsk, and Omsk. The band was also part of the European leg of the Hell On Earth Tour 2008. On November 11, 2008, the band recorded the video to their single "Never... Again" in downtown Los Angeles, directed by Gary Smithson.
On February 5, 2009, All Shall Perish released on their website that they would be parting ways with guitarist Chris Storey and replacing him with Jason Richardson. The band issued the following statement: "We will be doing all upcoming tours and fests! We have an unbelievable replacement named Jason Richardson. Can't wait to see everyone on the road! We will be doing a small headliner, the Atticus Clothing tour and then a ton of major fests in Europe. We have some surprises in store as well!"
After finishing the Night of the Living Shred tour, All Shall Perish members returned to California where they are currently writing a new album which is to be released in 2010. Mike Tiner stated that the process is currently "going slow, very slow". In early 2010 Richardson left All Shall Perish to join Born of Osiris. On the 5th of June, the band announced a new line-up. Drummer Matt Kuykendall will be replaced by Adam Pierce (formerly ofSea of Treachery) and new touring guitarist will be Francesco Artusato (of Hiss of Atrocities).
On the 8th November, the band announced they were to start work on a new album. Guitarist Ben Orum had this to say on the band's official website: "After two very successful tours at home and abroad, we are now home writing the new All Shall Perish record! The writing process is flowing very naturally, and so far the material itself is very impressive. It is safe to say this will be one of the most aggressive, epic, groovy records we have ever written. I cannot wait to start playing this material live." On January 31, 2011, the band was announced to be billed on the fourth annual Mayhem Festival, playing on the Extreme Stage alongside Suicide Silence.
On March 3, 2011 a new song called Divine Illusion was leaked onto YouTube only to be taken down of the website shortly after by Nuclear Blast Records.

MUSICAL STYLE AND LYRICAL THEMES

The band's playing style consists of fast paced, heavily palm-muted power chords in the rhythm section, and higher octave runs in the lead section. The percussion section consists mainly of heavy double bass-pedaling, and often rapid sections of snare drum, until the song comes to the breakdown. The breakdowns add splash cymbal and china cymbal to the mix, with quick bursts on the double bass. The vocals of the band use the false chord-screaming technique, a few earlier All Shall Perish songs feature inhaled pig squeal vocals.
The band's lyrics consist of several different themes, mainly upon the foundation of politics, such as government control, fascism and corporatecontrol. For example; the song "Black Gold Reign" from Awaken the Dreamers is in reference to current countries around the world adoptingoil as a main source of currency. This shows that a majority of their songs are politically-based.

Carnifex

Carnifex is an American deathcore band from San Diego, California. Formed in 2005, they are currently signed to Victory Records and have released three studio albums. Their band name literally translates to "executioner" from Latin.

HISTORY

FORMATION AND EARLY RECORDINGS (2005–2006)

Carnifex was founded during late 2005 in FallbrookCalifornia, with a starting lineup of Scott Lewis and Shawn Cameron, with Rick James (guitar) and Kevin Vargas (bass). A self-titled demo was released featuring five tracks in search for a label. A second demo was released and sold at local shows and was titled Hope Dies. In September 2006, Rick James and Kevin Vargas left. Shortly after, Steve McMahon joined on bass, as did Travis Whiting on guitar. Carnifex released an EP before the end of 2006, titledLove Lies in Ashes, which was released through Enclave Records. It was sold exclusively at shows as well as online stores such as iTunes before the group began work on their debut full-length.

Dead in My Arms (2007-2008)

Carnifex was signed to underground label This City Is Burning Records in March 2007 and recorded their debut full length Dead in My Arms, with yet another member change still a four-piece but with current guitarist Cory Arford replacing Rick James in March 2007. The line-up during the recording of Dead in My Arms was Scott Lewis (vocals), Shawn Cameron (drums), Cory Arford (guitar) and Steve McMahon (bass guitar). Dead in My Arms was released on July 12, 2007. Carnifex began touring full time with the release of this record. Touring gutarist Jake Anderson was recruited as a second guitarist from July 2007 until November. During this time, the band found themselves touring with groups such as EmmureWhitechapel,MyChildren MyBride and many others. The reasonable success of Dead in My Arms, and the prevalence of the deathcore genre as a whole, attracted the attention of Victory Records. In November 2007, after the departure of Steve McMahon (bass) and Jake Anderson (guitar), Carnifex signed a deal with Victory with now current members Fred Calderon (bass) and Ryan Gudmunds (guitar). December 2007 through January 2008 was spent writing their second album while half of the members of Carnifex werehomeless.

The Diseased and the Poisoned (2008-2009)

Carnifex's second album, The Diseased and The Poisoned was released on June 24, 2008, which reached #19 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers Chart.
Since the release of The Diseased and The Poisoned Carnifex has toured over 22 countries with such bands as The Black Dahlia MurderDespised IconObituaryUnleashedFinntrollWarbringerParkway DriveUnearth,ArchitectsWhitechapelProtest the HeroBleeding ThroughDarkest Hour,Impending Doom as well as many others.

Hell Chose Me (2009-2010)

On November 28, 2009, Carnifex finished recording their third full length album Hell Chose Me, which lead to its release on February 16, 2010. This record is said to be the heaviest and well put together effort that Carnifex has put out so far. It shows that this band still has the hate and aggression needed in a hopeless music scene. They may be regarded as Deathcore but this release has fallen more on the Death Metal side showing the raw talent Carnifex has to offer." Carnifex supporter, Chris "The Face" Baker stated "This album has it all. Insane double-bass and solid drum fills brough by Shawn Cameron. Earth shaking bass by Fred Calderon and destructive guitar riffs, licks and solo's by dueling guitarists Ryan Gudmunds and Cory Arford. Finally, Scott Lewis' vocals are those of Satan himself and shatter bone everytime they are heard by a mortal man.Hell Chose Me is the best album of 2010 and let no one down. It one up's their sophomore album the Diseased and the Poisoned easily without having distinct genre disputes."
The group played the 2010 Summer Slaughter Tour in support of the album and toured with UnearthAll That Remains and As I Lay Dying in September 2010.On January 26, 2011, Lewis announced, via Carnifex's official Facebook, that they're writing a new record. "We've been working hard on the new record. We know we have to top Hell Chose Me and were NOT letting you down! Heavier, darker and more pissed in every way. We will be posting a video blog updating you on everything we have going on soon. Stay sick \m/" said Lewis. Five days later a status was posted notifying fans to "garb" some merch from their band-owned merch site to help out with the new record. There is no set release date or set title as of now. On February 3, 2011 it was announced via Carnifex's official Facebook that they will be going on a full U.S. tour. Dubbed the "Names Mean Nothing" tour, Carnifex shall headline and are followed with supporting bandsOceanoThe Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza and Within the Ruins.

BEHEMOTH

Suffocation is an American death metal band that was formed in 1989 inLong IslandNew York. The band comprises vocalist Frank Mullen, guitarists Terrance Hobbs and Guy Marchais, drummer Mike Smith and bassist Derek Boyer. Suffocation rose to prominence of death metal and created a blueprint for the genre for the 1990s with their 1991 debut album Effigy of the Forgotten and released six studio albums since its formation.
The band's grindcore-influenced technical death metal style uses guttural vocals with a bottom-heavy guitar sound; complex, fast guitar riffs and drumming, and a sophisticated sense of songwriting.

HISTORY

Early years and the 1990s era (1988–1998)

Suffocation was formed in 1988 in Long IslandNew York, by vocalistFrank Mullen, bassist Josh Barohn, guitarists Guy Marchais and Todd German and Barohn's friend on drums. Guitarists Terrance Hobbs and Doug Cerrito, along with drummer Mike Smith, members of a local band Mortuary, that disbanded at the time, joined Suffocation and created a new lineup with Mullen, Hobbs, Smith, Cerrito and Barohn, influenced by fellow death metal bands and Napalm Death or Sepultura. Smith commented on meeting Hobbs for the first time: "That’s where I first noticed, "Wow, there’s another black guy playing this kind of stuff"."

The band's first EP, Human Waste, was released through Relapse Recordsin 1991. The full-length debut album, Effigy of the Forgotten, recorded by producer Scott Burns at Tampa's Morrisound Studios and released byRoadrunner Records the same year. The album became substantially influential in extreme metal music.
After the following album, Breeding the Spawn, was released in 1993, Smith left the band and was replaced by Doug Bohn. The 1995 releasePierced from Within, which received substantially better production than the previous release, was followed by extensive tours in Europe, Canada, Mexico and the United States. In 1998, Suffocation released the EP Despise the Sun via Vulture Records and disbanded soon after. The EP was re-released later in 2000 and 2002 by Relapse Records.

Reunion and later (2003–present)

Suffocation in 2010 (from left: Hobbs, Boyer, Mullen)
Mullen and Hobbs reformed in 2003 with Smith, Marchais and Derek Boyer of the bands Dying Fetus and Decrepit Birth on bass.
In April 2004, Relapse Records released Souls to Deny. After the band played more than 400 shows in the United States and Europe including theWacken Festival in Germany, playing to over 33,000 fans, Suffocation released their self-titled album, Suffocation, in 2006. In 2007, the band was featured in The History Channel's promotional video for The Dark Agesdocumentary, playing the song "Bind, Torture, Kill".
In 2008, the band signed to the German Nuclear Blast Records and released their latest album Blood Oath in 2009. In 2009, Relapse released the live album entitled Close of a Chapter—Live in Québec City, that was previously self-released by the band in 2005. The release of a documentary film Legacy Of Violence was set for 2010 but has since been delayed. In May, Suffocation toured with Napalm Death in South America and Mexico.

MUSICAL STYLE AND LEGACY

Suffocation's technical death metal style is influenced by grindcore. The band uses "outrageously guttural vocals with a bottom-heavy guitar foundation, blistering speed, unparalleled brutality and sophisticated sense of songwriting, complex time changes and lead and rhythm guitar acrobatics" and frequent breakdowns.
With their debut album, Effigy of the Forgotten, Suffocation rose to prominence of death metal, created a blueprint for the genre for the 1990s,retaining their typical style after the reunion in 2000's.Decibel Magazine stated: "Effigy of the Forgotten was a benchmark for extreme music, as it sacrificed neither virtuosity or brutality, becoming a signpost for thousands who were still contemplating how to incorporate scalar runs, rapid-fire palm-muting and hummingbird-wing-quick picking into riffs, while opening up rhythmic dimensions and the scope of the blast beat."According to Allmusic, Mullen is one of the best vocalists in death metal. Suffocation also influenced the creation of the deathcore subgenre.
